DAT assessment for school students

The Dubai Chapter of the Centre for Information and Guidance India (CIGI) will conduct Differential Aptitude Tests (DAT), most widely used psychometric tool to gauge the aptitude of students to help them choose the most suited educational career.

The test would be conducted on May 02 & 03 ‘2008 for students from 9th to 12th standards.

Three experts in psychometric analysis from CIGI Headquarters in Calicut will conduct the tests and hold counselling of students in the presence of their parents on the basis of the assessments of the test to help them choose most suitable educational career.

The differential aptitude tests (DAT) are the latest genre of the career aptitude tests.

The DAT measures children’s aptitudes in eight different areas: Verbal reasoning, Numerical Ability, Abstract Reasoning, Mechanical Reasoning, Space Relations Spelling, Language Usage and Perceptual Speed and Accuracy.

DAT is developed by the American Psychological Society and CIGI has customized the evaluation process for the Indian as well as Middle Eastern standards after a few years of research and analysis.

Students will have to undergo eight sets of differential aptitude tests. They contain multiple choice questionnaires. Students are required to select the best/correct option within a set time limit of 12 to 25 minutes for each test.

Based on the analysis of the above factors, the counselors can assist the student in identifying his natural talent and optimum career choice. On completion of the test, the candidate will be able to:

Enlighten themselves on the strategy of planning the career – method & factors that determine career success, and recent trends in career field;
Exposes the students to the various course opportunities in each stream that suits their aptitude;
Visualize the future;
Recognize their strengths;
Know how to focus these strengths towards success;
Have a clear picture of the options they have in their career path;
Know to choose a path in order to be most successful;
Be equipped with tools to utilize their potential to the fullest;
The basis of anxiety and how to overcome it.

The entire session will be headed by a group of professional experts in the field of career guidance and counseling. Unlike other tests and examinations, students do not have to make any preparations for the DAT.
