PRESS RELEASE
A high level Civil Society delegation from India is currently on a visit to Saudi Arabia. The delegation is sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and is led by Mr. Syed Shahid Mahdi, Vice President of ICCR. The delegation comprises of Mr. P.K. Abdul Aziz, Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University; Mr. Anwar Moazzam, Islamic Scholar, Academician, Writer and Director (Honorary), Urdu Documentation Centre, Hyderabad; Mr. A.C. Patankar, Adviser, Confederation of Indian Industry; Mrs. Rakhshanda Jalil – Coordinator, Media and Culture, Jamia Milia Islamia; and Ms. Mita Vasisht – Indian television, film and theatre actress, and founder of Mandala, Space for arts, collaborations, research and education.
During the visit, the delegation will interact extensively with the Saudi Civil Society. The delegation is also expected to call on the Deputy Minister of Information & Culture, Dr. Abu Baker Bagader and is scheduled to visit Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dar-Al-Hekma Women University, Islamic Development Bank, National Commercial Bank, International Medical Centre etc. Saudi-India Friendship Society will be hosting a reception in honour of the delegation. The delegation will also participate in a ‘Panel Discussion’ on 30th April where some of the Saudi speakers would also be participating.
The visit is another opportunity for diversifying and strengthening India-Saudi relations, in light of the high level visits that have been exchanged between the two countries in the past few years. The visit of the delegation is also a follow up to the Saudi Civil Society delegation which visited India on the sidelines of the Royal visit in January 2006.

DAT assessment for school students
DAT assessment for school students
The Dubai Chapter of the Centre for Information and Guidance India (CIGI) will conduct Differential Aptitude Tests (DAT), most widely used psychometric tool to gauge the aptitude of students to help them choose the most suited educational career.
The test would be conducted on May 02 & 03 ‘2008 for students from 9th to 12th standards.
Three experts in psychometric analysis from CIGI Headquarters in Calicut will conduct the tests and hold counselling of students in the presence of their parents on the basis of the assessments of the test to help them choose most suitable educational career.
The differential aptitude tests (DAT) are the latest genre of the career aptitude tests.
The DAT measures children’s aptitudes in eight different areas: Verbal reasoning, Numerical Ability, Abstract Reasoning, Mechanical Reasoning, Space Relations Spelling, Language Usage and Perceptual Speed and Accuracy.
DAT is developed by the American Psychological Society and CIGI has customized the evaluation process for the Indian as well as Middle Eastern standards after a few years of research and analysis.
Students will have to undergo eight sets of differential aptitude tests. They contain multiple choice questionnaires. Students are required to select the best/correct option within a set time limit of 12 to 25 minutes for each test.
Based on the analysis of the above factors, the counselors can assist the student in identifying his natural talent and optimum career choice. On completion of the test, the candidate will be able to:
Enlighten themselves on the strategy of planning the career – method & factors that determine career success, and recent trends in career field;
Exposes the students to the various course opportunities in each stream that suits their aptitude;
Visualize the future;
Recognize their strengths;
Know how to focus these strengths towards success;
Have a clear picture of the options they have in their career path;
Know to choose a path in order to be most successful;
Be equipped with tools to utilize their potential to the fullest;
The basis of anxiety and how to overcome it.
The entire session will be headed by a group of professional experts in the field of career guidance and counseling. Unlike other tests and examinations, students do not have to make any preparations for the DAT.

His fearless indictment of injustice and oppression provides a standing rebuke to the various dictators who have periodically usurped power in Pakistan. During the past year, as the country faced a deep-seated political crisis triggered by an army general’s refusal to cede power, one poem in particular, ‘We Shall See’ (Hum dekheyn gey), has assumed the status of a signature tune. From its initial recital in the lawyers’ demonstrations last spring, the poem has become a fixture on banners, placards, newspaper headlines, media shows, and election rallies.

As Muslim guests from all walks of life arrived at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in Mayfair on March 25, they were able to leave more than just their coats and bags at the cloak room. On entering the eighth The Muslim News Awards for Excellence, they could also shed their permanent ‘Muslim in a Western world’ exterior, and really enjoy celebrating one another’s achievements. For the next four hours, they did not have to explain why women wear the hijab, they did not have to defend Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) honour, they did not have to justify their sympathy and sadness for the atrocities committed in the Middle East. No, they were there to enjoy a truly inspiring, motivational, proud yet humbling experience.

Church of England Synod member calls for banning of new mosques

Turkey: Democracy without democrats

Pakistan: ‘We shall see’

The interplay of lyricism and revolutionary passion characterising his work is one reason why Faiz Ahmad Faiz (1911-1984) is widely recognised as one of the twentieth century’s greatest Urdu poets. His fearless indictment of injustice and oppression provides a standing rebuke to the various dictators who have periodically usurped power in Pakistan. During the past year, as the country faced a deep-seated political crisis triggered by an army general’s refusal to cede power, one poem in particular, ‘We Shall See’ (Hum dekheyn gey), has assumed the status of a signature tune. From its initial recital in the lawyers’ demonstrations last spring, the poem has become a fixture on banners, placards, newspaper headlines, media shows, and election rallies.

Showcasing Muslim and non-Muslim success

As Muslim guests from all walks of life arrived at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in Mayfair on March 25, they were able to leave more than just their coats and bags at the cloak room. On entering the eighth The Muslim News Awards for Excellence, they could also shed their permanent ‘Muslim in a Western world’ exterior, and really enjoy celebrating one another’s achievements. For the next four hours, they did not have to explain why women wear the hijab, they did not have to defend Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) honour, they did not have to justify their sympathy and sadness for the atrocities committed in the Middle East. No, they were there to enjoy a truly inspiring, motivational, proud yet humbling experience.

Church of England Synod member calls for banning of new mosques

Alison Ruoff, a member of the General Synod, the Church of England’s parliament, has asked for a stop to mosques being built in Britain. “We are constantly building new mosques, which are paid for by the money that comes from the oil states,” she claimed in an interview with Premier Christian Radio.

Muslim police officers face obstacles in promotion

Superintendent Babu pointed out the NAMP’s belief that the security vetting system “is putting obstacles” in the way of the recruitment and promotion of officers who belonged to an ethnic or religious minority. “This is because verification of an officer’s history in countries such as Pakistan takes longer to complete and may not be verified to the satisfaction of UK and wider world security services.” This in turn, Babu argued, caused “low morale”, and prevented the officers who would be the most useful from applying for specialist and counter-terrorism roles.
