WAR ON GAZA
What Muslims Can Do….
1. Muslims must offer special Salah and special Dua seeking help and blessings of Allah in times when other Muslim men, women and children are the target of oppression.
The following authentic supplications are recommended:
اللّهمّ إنّا نجعلك في نحورهم ونعوذبك من شرورهم
‘O Allah, We ask You to restrain them by their necks and we seek refuge in You from their evil’.
اللّهمّ منزل الكتاب, سريع الحساب, اهزم الأحزاب, اللّهمّ اهزمهم وزلزلهم
‘O Allah, Revealer of the Book, Swift to account, Defeat the groups (of disbelievers), O Allah, defeat them and shake them.’
حسبنا الله ونعم الوكيل
‘Allah is sufficient for us, the Best of those on whom to depend’.
2. Stage legal and peaceful demonstrations wherever possible.
3. Involve school and college students and form human chain to register peaceful protest against the Zionist terrorism.
4. Write letters to the editors expressing anguish and mobilising public opinion against the brutal attacks.
5. Participate in the opinion poll conducted by various agencies and vote against the perpetrators of crime against humanity.
6. Muslims in different countries must form delegations comprising of right thinking people and submit a draft memorandum to the presidents and prime ministers of their countries to pressurise the Zionist regime to stop the aggression.
7. Muslim writers, teachers, media personnel, imams of masajid should explain to the people the historical background of Palestine struggle and the illegal occupation of the Jewish people in the blessed land of Palestine.
8. Contributions in form of money and medical aid must be mobilised and ensured that it reaches the victims of the most inhuman nation on earth!
9. It is unfortunate that the Arab world is not united in times of distress. Lips service must go and the Arab world must stand united in defeating the evil nexus of terror and tyranny.
10. Self-respecting nations must prevail upon the Egyptian government to open the Rafah border to help ease the tension.

ASPECT OF PRE-ISLAMIC ARABIAN SOCIETY
ASPECT OF PRE-ISLAMIC ARABIAN SOCIETY
After the research we have made into the religious and political life of Arabia, it is appropriate to speak briefly about the social, economic and ethical conditions prevalent therein.
SOCIAL LIFE OF THE ARABS:
The Arabian Society presented a social medley, with different and heterogeneous social strata. The status of the woman among the nobility recorded an advanced degree of esteem. The woman enjoyed a considerable portion of free will, and her decision would most often be enforced. She was so highly cherished that blood would be easily shed in defence of her honour. In fact, she was the most decisive key to bloody fight or friendly peace. These privileges notwithstanding, the family system in Arabia was wholly patriarchal. The marriage contract rested completely in the hands of the woman’s legal guardian whose words with regard to her marital status could never be questioned.
On the other hand, there were other social strata where prostitution and indecency were rampant and in full operation. Abu Da’ûd, on the authority of ‘Aishah(May Allah be pleased with her) reported four kinds of marriage in pre-Islamic Arabia: The first was similar to present-day marriage procedures, in which case a man gives his daughter in marriage to another man after a dowry has been agreed on. In the second, the husband would send his wife – after the menstruation period – to cohabit with another man in order to conceive. After conception her husband would, if he desired, have a sexual intercourse with her. A third kind was that a group of less than ten men would have sexual intercourse with a woman. If she conceived and gave birth to a child, she would send for these men, and nobody could abstain. They would come together to her house. She would say: ‘You know what you have done. I have given birth to a child and it is your child’ (pointing to one of them). The man meant would have to accept. The fourth kind was that a lot of men would have sexual intercourse with a certain woman (a whore). She would not prevent anybody. Such women used to put a certain flag at their gates to invite in anyone who liked. If this whore got pregnant and gave birth to a child, she would collect those men, and a seeress would tell whose child it was. The appointed father would take the child and declare him/her his own. When Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) declared Islam in Arabia, he cancelled all these forms of sexual contacts except that of present Islamic marriage
Women always accompanied men in their wars. The winners would freely have sexual intercourse with such women, but disgrace would follow the children conceived in this way all their lives.
Pre-Islam Arabs had no limited number of wives. They could marry two sisters at the same time, or even the wives of their fathers if divorced or widowed. Divorce was to a very great extent in the power of the husband.
The obscenity of adultery prevailed almost among all social classes except few men and women whose self-dignity prevented them from committing such an act. Free women were in much better conditions than the female slaves who constituted the greatest calamity. It seemed that the greatest majority of pre-Islam Arabs did not feel ashamed of committing this obscenity. Abu Da’ûd reported: A man stood up in front of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and said: “O Prophet of Allâh! that boy is my son. I had sexual intercourse with his mother in the pre-Islamic period.” The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:
· “No claim in Islam for pre-Islamic affairs. The child is to be attributed to the one on whose bed it was born, and stoning is the lot of a fornicator.”
With respect to the pre-Islam Arab’s relation with his offspring, we see that life in Arabia was paradoxical and presented a gloomy picture of contrasts. Whilst some Arabs held children dear to their hearts and cherished them greatly, others buried their female children alive because an illusory fear of poverty and shame weighed heavily on them. The practice of infanticide cannot, however, be seen as irrevocably rampant because of their dire need for male children to guard themselves against their enemies.
Another aspect of the Arabs’ life which deserves mention is the bedouin’s deep-seated emotional attachment to his clan. Family, or perhaps tribal-pride, was one of the strongest passions with him. The doctrine of unity of blood as the principle that bound the Arabs into a social unity was formed andsupported by tribal-pride. Their undisputed motto was: “انصر أخاك ظالما أو مظلوما — Support your brother whether he is an oppressor or oppressed” in its literal meaning; they disregarded the Islamic amendment which states that supporting an oppressor brother implies deterring him from transgression.
Avarice for leadership, and keen sense of emulation often resulted in bitter tribal warfare despite descendency from one common ancestor. In this regard, the continued bloody conflicts of Aws and Khazraj, ‘Abs and Dhubyan, Bakr and Taghlib, etc. are striking examples.
Inter-tribal relationships were fragile and weak due to continual inter-tribal wars of attrition. Deep devotion to religious superstitions and some customs held in veneration, however, used to curb their impetuous tendency to quench their thirst for blood. In other cases, there were the motives of, and respect for, alliance, loyalty and dependency which could successfully bring about a spirit of rapport, and abort groundless bases of dispute. A time-honoured custom of suspending hostilities during the prohibited months (Muharram, Rajab, Dhul-Qa‘dah, and Dhul-Hijjah) functioned favourably and provided an opportunity for them to earn their living and coexist in peace.
We may sum up the social situation in Arabia by saying that the Arabs of the pre-Islamic period were groping about in the dark and ignorance, entangled in a mesh of superstitions paralyzing their mind and driving them to lead an animal-like life. The woman was a marketable commodity and regarded as a piece of inanimate property. Inter-tribal relationships were fragile. Avarice for wealth and involvement in futile wars were the main objectives that governed their chiefs’ self-centred policies.

DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH
DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH
It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven a its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:
Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.
METHOD OF TREATMENT
1.. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water
2.. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute
3.. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
4.. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
5.. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
6.. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.
The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/ reduce main diseases:
1.. High Blood Pressure - 30 days
2.. Gastric - 10 days
3.. Diabetes - 30 days
4.. Constipation - 10 days
5.. Cancer - 180 days
6.. TB - 90 days
7.. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards - daily.
This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.
It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life.
Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.
This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ...not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.
It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
A serious note about heart attacks: Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting.
Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...
A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this mail sends it to everyone they know, you can be sure that we'll save at least one life.

Liaquat Ali Khan)

could look him straight in the eye. (Begum Raana Liaquat Ali Khan)

Muharram - Facts & Misconception
Facts About Muharram
* Muharram is one of the four sacred Months out of twelve. The other being Dhul-Qa'dah, Dhul-Hijjah,and Rajab.
* These four months have been sacred since the creation of universe - as told by Allah Subhana Watala in the Quran.
* After Ramadan, fasting in the month of Muharram is most rewardable.
* Muharram is a sacred month NOT because the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (saw) was martyred in this month. It is sacred because Allah made it sacred along with three other months and told us about it in the Quran.
Facts about Ashurah - The 10th of Muharram
* Fasting on the 10th Muharram i.e. Ashura was obligatory on the Muslims before the fasts of Ramadan were made obligatory.
* Fasting on the 10th of Muharram expiates the sins of the previous year.
* Musa (as) and the Bani Israel were saved from the Pharaoh by the parting of the sea on 10th Muharram.
* Prophet Musa (as) as a sign of gratitute to Allah used to fast on the day of Ashura and Jews did the same.
* Prophet Muhammad (saw) on hearing the fast of Musa (as) also ordered the Muslims to fast on this day and himself did the same.
* Prophet Muhammad (saw) decided to fast on 9th Muharram as well to differentiate from the Jews but he passed away before he could do so.
Misconceptions about Ashura
* This is the day Prophet Adam (as) was created
* This is the day when Allah accepted the repentance of Adam (as)
* This is the day when Ibrahim (as) was born.
* This is the day the Qayamat (doomsday) will occur. (From hadiths we know Qayamat will occur on a friday, but does not specify which month)
* Whoever baths of Ashura will never get ill.
* Muharram is an evil or unlucky month.( due to the battle of Karbala)
* Marriages should not be held in Muharram.
All of the above are misconceptions based on unauthentic traditions. This misconception can be easily removed by the fact that on the exact same day Husain (ra) was martyred, years ago Prophet Musa as and his followers were saved from Pharaoh, which is why Prophet Muhammad saw observed the fast on Ashura and ordered the Muslims to do the same. The day can not be lucky or unlucky at the same time.
Historical Facts about Muharram
* Companion Umar Farooq (ra) succumbed to his injuries and attained Martyrdom on the 1st of Muharram, 23 AH (After Hijri)
* Grandson of Prophet Muhammad (saw) Hussain ibn Ali (ra) along with most of his family members was martyred in the desert of Kerbala in Iraq on the 10th of Muharram.
Authentic Ibadaat (Worship) of Muharram
* Fasting in Muharram (any day)
* Fasting on 10th Muharram and combining it with the fast of 9th Muharram to distinguish from the Jews.
Innovations and things to avoid in Muharram
* Preparing special dishes meals in Muharram.
* Holding lamentation and mourning ceremonies in the memory of martyrdom of Sayyidna Husain (ra)
* Cursing the companions.
* Wearing black clothes and starving and refusing to drink in memory of Husain (ra)
All these are deviant practices which go against the basic teachings of Quran and Prophet Muhammad (saw) He said ""He is not from our group who slaps his checks, tears his clothes and cries in the manner of the people of jahiliyyah." (Sahih Bukhari)
Sayyidna Husain ra before his demise advised his beloved sister Sayyidah Zainab, ra, not to mourn over his death in this manner. He said, "My dear sister! I swear upon you that in case I die you shall not tear your clothes, nor scratch your face, nor curse anyone for me or pray for your death." (Al-Kamil, ibn Kathir vol. 4 pg. 24)
It is evident from this advice of Sayyidna Husain, Radi-Allahu anhu, that this type of mourning is condemned even by the blessed person for the memory of whom these mourning ceremonies are held. Every Muslim should avoid this practice and abide by the teachings of the Holy Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, and his beloved grand child Sayyidna Husain, Radi-Allahu anhu.

A blessing to the Tsunami victims!!
A blessing to the Tsunami victims!!
A report by T Azeez Luthfullah
http://azeez-luthfullah.blogspot.com/2009/01/blessing-to-tsunami-victims.html
The Tamil Nadu Relief Committee (TNRC) handed over 38 houses to the victims of Tsunami in the village Kottaikuppam near Puducherry today.
Mr A Shabbir Ahmed president JIH presided over the simple ceremony arranged in connection with the noble occasion. Dr. R. Palaniswamy I.A.S, Villupauram District Collector handed over the keys of the newly constructed houses to the victims. Mr. H. Abdur Raqeeb, General Secretary, Islamic Foundation Trust(IFT) and member CAC JIH felicitated the organisors and lauded their efforts. He hoped a model colony would emerge shedding light of hope and wisdom to the whole of the Kottaikuppam as well as the state. Mr. P. Danraj local MP and Mrs Banumathi Jayamoorthy, local Panchayat Chief congratulated the people behind the mission and pledged all kind of helps to their similar efforts. Mr. Ahmed Meeran a self made man and a committed philanthropist from Chennai and Moulavi Faizur Rahman Madani, Principal, Women's Arabic College, Kottaikuppam also spoke at the occasion.
TNRC owes its existence to Tsunami, the mass killer. Yes, TNRC was formed when killer waves attacked the shores of Tamil Nadu some years back. TNRC immediately sprung into action and established 100 temporary shelters in lightening speed in Nagapattinam, which was the worst affected town in Tamil Nadu. It also provided Relief Kits comprising of rice, foodgrains, bucket, utensils, soaps, blankets, mattresses etc to 7000 families. When the focus of the world deviated from Tsunami, TNRC continued its mission and got itself engaged in rehabilitation work. Under its innovative and progressive livelihood scheme 500 families were provided with assistance both in cash and kind. TNRC gave top class fibre boats with high power engine and world class fishing nets to sixteen families in Pulicat, a fishing village near Chennai. The smiles on the faces of the boat owners of Pulicat is the everlasting testimony of the pioneering efforts of TNRC. Similarly TNRC established a dairy farm with fifteen fat cows in pudupattinam as a part of its rehabilitation shemes. Keeping the future generations in mind TNRC diversified its efforts and provided educational aid and School kits to 2000 students. The greatest achievement of TNRC stands in the form of Samarasam Nagar in Nagore where it built 100 beautiful houses. Each and every house had been constructed in 400 sq. feet area in a 1300 sq. feet plot. It comprises a drawing room, a hall, a bed room, kitchen, toilet and bathroom with stair case to the terrace. A spacious verandah and sit out is an added attraction. The Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage department (TWAD) has constructed an elegant overhead tank with a capacity of 30,000litres of drinking water and has provided a street pipe for every fifteen (15) houses. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has provided prompt domestic connection and has also erected twenty eight street lamp posts.
The cluster of houses presents a glorious spectacle with the line up of similar looking, beautifully crafted and neatly painted glittering houses dotting the lines. The newly formed colony has been provided with a park and a play ground for the children with all the required facilities too. The colony has been named aptly Samarasam Nagar. Samarasam means peace and harmony.
Now TNRC has added another colourful feather to its crown by distributing 38 houses in Kottaikuppam..! Let us laud their effort and pray for them!!

A Day In the Life of Allama Iqbal
An Interview with Mian Ali Bakhsh
Q. When did Iqbal usually get up in the morning?
A. Very early. As a matter of fact, he slept very little. He was keen
on his morning prayer. After the prayer he read the Qur'an.
Q. In what manner did he read the Qur'an?
A. Before his throat was affected, he used to recite the Qur'an in a
clear and melodious voice. Even after he got the throat disease he
used to read the Qur'an but not loudly.
Q. What did he usually do after he had finished his prayer and
recitation?
A. He used to sit in an easy-chair. I would prepare his "hookah" and
place it before him. He would study the briefs of cases which were to
come up in court that day. Now and then, while still at his files, he
would have moments of poetic inspiration.
Q. How did you know when he was in his poetic mood?
A. He would call me and say: "Bring my note book and my pencil." When
I brought these, he would write down the verses in pencil. Now and
then, when he did not feel satisfied with his composition, he was
extremely restless. While composing he would often ask for the Qur'an
to be brought to him. Even otherwise he called for the Qur'an a number
of times in the day.
Q. What time did he usually go to court when he was practising at the
bar?
A. He used to leave 15 or 20 minutes before court time. As long as he
lived in Anarkali [his house, which is no longer in existence, was
where the New Market, Lahore, is now] he used to go to court in his
horse carriage. Later, he bought a car.
Q. How long was he active as a legal practictioner?
A. He was in practice until he got his throat disease which was around
1932 or 1933.
Q. What did he do on return from court?
A. Before doing anything else he used to ask me to help him take off
his court clothes. He was never fond of formal dress and used to put
it only for the court and that also with effort.
Q. What did he do after changing his dress?
A. He composed verses whenever he felt like it.
Q. Did he sleep in the afternoon?
A. Not usually, but he did so now and then.
Q. At what time did he take his meals?
A. Between 12 and 1 o'clock in the day. He ate only one meal. Normally
he did not eat in the evening.
Q. What were his favourite dishes?
A. He was fond of pulao, mash-ki-daal seasoned with ghee, karela
stuffed with minced meat, and also khushka.
Q. Did he like many dishes at his meals?
A. No, there were only a few dishes at a time. He was a poor eater.
Q. Did he take any exercise?
A. In the early days, he did. In those days he used dum-bells, and
performed dand [a stretching exercise].
Q. Was he interested in games and sports?
A. He was interested in watching wrestling matches.
Q. Was he in the habit of going out in the evening?
A. Getting out in the evening was almost an impossibility with him. In
the earlier days when he was living inside Bhati Gate [where he lived
before going to Cambridge, England in 1905], he would sometimes walk
as far as the platform outside the house of Hakim Shahbazuddin [a
close friend of the poet]. Once in a while Sir Zulfiqar Ali [of the
ruling family of Malerkotla; author of book on poet 'A voice from the
East'] would come in his car and take him out.
Q. When did he go to sleep in the evening?
A. In the evening a number of friends and visitors used to call on
him. These sittings went on till 9 or 10 o'clock. After this he sat
alone with Ch. Mohammad Husain and recited to him the verses he had
composed during the day.
Q. How long did Choudhry Sahib normally stay?
A. Up to 12 or 1 o'clock in the night. After this Doctor Sahib would
go to bed, but would get up for his Tahajjud prayer after he had
hardly slept for two or three hours.
Q. And after the Tahajjud?
A. He used to lie down for a short time until it was time for the
morning prayers.

Life is Test
Some one is Loving you, Caring for you,
Watching over you,
Protecting you,
Guess who?
ALLAH
Life is Test
Islam is Best
Namaz is Must
Aakhirat is for Rest
World is only Dust
If Qura'an is in Chest
Nothing need Next
Obey ALLAH First!
The beautiful word is ALLAH
Most beautiful Melody is AZAN
Best exercise is NAMAZ
World's perfect book is QURA'AN
And You are so Lucky if YOU are a
MUSALMAAN!
FAJR: improves ur beauty
ZOHER: increases income
ASAR: increases health
MAGHRIB: makes a good future for your children
ISHA'A: provides peaceful sleep
WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED IN LIFE!
Why is it so Easy to
Delete ALLAH's SMS
But yet we forward
All of nasty and funny???
And whenever you give your word;
Say the truth [surah al-An'am; 6:152]
Pay attention to ALLAH ;
And He will pay attention to you.
If you feel no shame;
Then do as you wish.
Happy Moments - PRAiSE ALLAH
Difficult Moments - SEEK ALLAH
Quiet Moments - WORSHiP ALLAH
Painful Moments - TRUST ALLAH
Moment By Moment - THANKS ALLAH

I can do
I can do:
1. I can learn new things
2. I can learn the unknown details
3. I can say no, what I do not know
4. I can say that at present I can not do the things
5. I can bear the defeat
6. I can say that I can try again and again
7. I can wait for the seed after planting
8. If I do not get others appreciation also I can be strong on my goal
9. I can continue my duties and responsibilities without tiredness
10. I can get help at the right time as well to say thanks for that
11. I can be patience if some one briefing my mistakes
12. I can get pardon, if I say or do any untoward things
13. I can be patience if someone get nervous
14. I can be liberal when I hear silly matters
15. I can silent when it is required for better
16. I can always at others service
17. I can stand on my own at any cost

Goal
In everything, goodness is there. Our goal is to find it.
In every person, the best is there, our job is to recognise it.
In every situation, the positive is there, our opportunity is to see it.
In every problem, the solution is there, our responsibility is to provide it.
In every setback, the success is there, our adventure is to discover it.
In every crisis, the reason is there, our challenge is to understand it.
By seeing the goodness, we'll be very enthusiastic and
our lives will be all the richer.

Departing of the Soul
Departing of the Soul
It is said that when the angel of death is taking the rooh (soul) out of the body whom passes away....it is a painful experience.
They say that when the dead awake on Qayaamat, the effect of the rooh being taken out will still be there. Therefore, ALLAH has told us to recite the Ayatul Kursi after any Farz salaat and it is stated that whoever recites this, their rooh will be taken out as you would take out a strand of hair from a pile of flour. How light would that feel, mashaAllah!
May Allah save us from any sort of pain and may He let us die with Imaan in our hearts and save us from the azaab.
There is no word as beautiful as Allah.
No example as beautiful as Rasulallah (SAW),
No lesson as beautiful as Islam
No song as melodious as Azan.
No charity as meaningful as Zakat.
No encyclopaedia as perfect as Al Quran.
No exercise as perfect as Namaz.
No diet as perfect as fasting.
No journey as perfect as Hajj.
Let's realize that Islam is for ever beautiful and perfect, please forward this message to get the sawaab of passing on knowledge.
This is most common among us..... most of us talk during Azan...Read this mail..
The Holy Prophet (SAW) said, Stop doing everything during the Azaan, even reading the Quran, the person who talks during the Azaan will not be able to say the Kalima AShahada on his/her death bed.... Please pass this message to Muslims...READ THIS DUAA FOR BETTER LIFE
Allahumma- inni- ala-Zikr-ika-wa Shuk-rika wa husni-ibad-atika.
Avery powerful Dua'a has been sent to you. What do you think you should do with it. Imagine if 1000 people read it just because of you.
JazakAllah

Introduction
During the last two decades in particular, the concept of "Islamic
terror" has been often discussed. In the wake of the September 11
terrorist attacks on targets in New York and Washington which caused
the death of tens of thousands of innocent civilians, this concept has
once again returned to the top of the international agenda.
As Muslims, we completely condemn these attacks and offer our
condolences to the American people.
In this article, we will explain that Islam is by no means the source
of this violence and that violence has no place in Islam.
One point that should be stressed at the outset is that the identities
of the perpetrators of the acts of terrorism which targeted the United
States are not yet determined. There is a chance that these horrible
attackers are linked to quite different centres. It may well be a
communist organization harboring rage and hatred against American
values, a fascist organization opposing federal administration or a
secret faction in another state. Even though the hijackers have Muslim
identities, the questions regarding by whom and for what purposes
these people were used will probably remain to be a mystery.
The fact remains however, that even if the terrorists have Muslim
identities, the terror they perpetrated cannot be labelled "Islamic
terror", just as it would not be called "Jewish terror" if the
perpetrators were Jews or "Christian terror" if they were Christians.
That is because, as we will examine in the following pages, murdering
innocent people in the name of religion is unacceptable. We need to
keep in mind that, among those who were killed in Washington or New
York , there were people who loved Jesus (Christians) , Prophet Moses
(Jews) and Muslims. According to Islam, murdering innocent people is a
great sin that, unless forgiven by God, brings torment in Hell.
Thus, a religious person who has fear of God can never commit such an
act.
In fact, the aggressors can commit such violence only with the
intention of attacking religion itself. It may well be that they
carried out this violence to present religion as evil in the eyes of
people, to divorce people from religion and to generate hatred and
reaction against pious people. Consequently, every attack having a
"religious" facade on American citizens or other innocent people is
actually an attack made against religion.
All the three Theistic religions command love, mercy and peace.
Terror, on the other hand, is the opposite of religion; it is cruel,
merciless and it demands bloodshed and misery. This being the case,
while looking for the perpetrators of a terrorist act, its origins
should be sought in disbelief rather than in religion. People with a
fascist, communist, racist or materialist outlook on life should be
suspected as potential perpetrators. The name or the identity of the
triggerman is not important. If he can kill innocent people without
blinking an eye, whatever his label is, then he is a disbeliever, not
a believer. He is a murderer with no fear of God, whose main ambition
is to shed blood and to give harm.
For this reason, "Islamic terror" is quite a erroneous concept which
contradicts Islam's message. That is because, the religion of Islam
can by no means concur with terror. On the contrary, Muslims are
responsible for preventing terrorist acts and bringing peace and
justice to the world.
The Values of the Qur'an demands Goodness, Justice and Peace
Terror, in its broadest sense, is violence committed against non-
military targets for political purposes. To put it in another way, the
targets of terror are entirely innocent civilians whose only crime is,
in the eyes of terrorists, to represent "the other".
This is an act bereft of any moral justification. This, as in the case
of murders committed by Hitler or Stalin, is a crime committed against
"mankind".
The Qur'an is a Book revealed to people as a guide to the true path
and in this Book, God commands man to adopt good morals. This morality
is based upon concepts such as love, compassion, tolerance and mercy.
God calls all people to Islamic morals through which compassion,
mercy, peace and tolerance can be experienced all over the world:
You who believe! Enter absolutely into peace (Islam). Do not follow in
the footsteps of Satan. He is an outright enemy to you. ( Surat al-
Baqara :208)
The values of the Qur'an hold a Muslim responsible for treating all
people, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, kindly and justly, protecting
the needy and the innocent and preventing the "dissemination of
mischief". Mischief comprises all forms of anarchy and terror that
remove security, comfort and peace. As God says in a verse, "God does
not love mischief makers". ( Surat al-Qasas: 77)
Murdering a person for no reason is one of the most obvious examples
of mischief. God repeats in the Qur'an a command He formerly revealed
to Jews in the Old Testament thus:
So We decreed for the tribe of Israel that if someone kills another
person - unless it is in retaliation for someone else or for causing
corruption in the earth - it is as if he had murdered all mankind. And
if anyone gives life to another person, it is as if he had given life
to all mankind. Our Messengers came to them with Clear Signs but even
after that many of them committed outrages in the earth. ( Surat al-
Ma'ida: 32)
As the verse suggests, a person who kills even a single man, "unless
it is in retaliation for someone else or for causing corruption in the
earth", commits a crime as if he had murdered all mankind on earth.
This being the case, it is obvious what great sins are the murders,
massacres and, attacks, popularly known as "suicide attacks",
committed by terrorists are. God informs us how this cruel face of
terrorism will be punished in the hereafter in the following verse:
There are only grounds against those who wrong people and act as
tyrants in the earth without any right to do so. Such people will have
a painful punishment. ( Surat ash-Shura: 42)
All these reveal that organizing acts of terror against innocent
people is utterly against Islam and it is unlikely that any Muslim
could ever commit such crime. On the contrary, Muslims are responsible
for stopping these people, removing "mischief on earth" and bringing
peace and security to all people all over the world. Being a Muslim
cannot be reconciled with terror. Just the contrary, it is the
solution and prevention of terror.
This being the case, how did the popular term "Islamic terror" emerge?
What has been examined so far reveals that it is not possible to talk
about an "Islamic" terror. Indeed, a closer look at the
characteristics of the perpetrators explicitly reveals that this
terror is not a religious but a social phenomenon..
Crusaders: Barbarians Who Trampled Their Own Religion
The true message of a religion or another system of belief can be at
times exposed to distortion by its pseudo-adherents. The Crusaders,
who constitute a dark episode of Christian history, set a good example
of this.
Crusaders were European Christians who undertook the expeditions at
the end of the 11th century to recover the Holy Land (the area around
Palestine ) from the Muslims. They set out with a so-called religious
goal, yet they laid waste each acre of land they entered with fear and
violence. They subjected civilians to mass executions and plundered
many villages and towns.
Their conquest of Jerusalem , where Muslims, Jews and Christians lived
under Islamic rule in peace, became the scene of immense bloodshed.
They violently killed all Muslims and Jews. The Crusaders' barbarism
was so excessive that, during the Fourth Crusade, they plundered
Istanbul , also a Christian city, and stole the golden objects from
the churches.
No doubt, all this barbarism was utterly against Christian political
doctrine. That is because, Christianity, in the words of the Bible, is
a "gospel of love". In the Gospel according to Matthew, it is said
that Jesus said "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute
you" to his followers (Matthew, 5/44) In the Gospel according to Luke,
it is said that Jesus said "If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn
to him the other also." (Luke, 6/29) No doubt, in no part of the New
Testament, is there reference to the legitimacy of violence; murdering
innocent people, on the other hand, is unimaginable. You can find the
concept of "massacre of the innocents" in the Bible; yet, only in the
cruel Jewish King Herod's attempt to kill Jesus while he was a baby.
While Christianity is a religion based on love that accommodates no
violence, how did Christian Crusaders carry out the most violent acts
of history? The major reason for this is that, Crusaders were mainly
made up of ignorant people who could better be defined as "rabble".
These masses, who knew almost nothing about their religion, who had
never read or even seen the Bible once in their lifetime, and who were
therefore completely unaware of the moral values of the Bible, were
led into barbarism under the conditioning of Crusaders' slogans as
"God wills it".
It is worth mentioning that in that period, Eastern Christians - the
people of Byzantium, for instance - who were culturally far ahead of
Western Christians, espoused more humane values. Both before and after
the Crusaders' conquests, Orthodox Christians managed to live together
with Muslims. According to Terry Johns, the BBC commentator, with the
withdrawal of the Crusaders from Middle East , "civilized life started
again and members of the three monotheistic faith returned to peaceful
coexistence." [1] The example of the Crusaders is indicative of a
general phenomenon: The more the adherents of an ideology are
uncivilized, intellectually underdeveloped and "ignorant", the more
likely they are to resort to violence. This also holds true for
ideologies that have nothing to do with religion. All communist
movements around the world are prone to violence. Yet the most savage
and blood-thirsty of them was the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia. That is
because they were the most ignorant.
Just as ignorant people may take a violence-ridden opinion to the
point of insanity, so they may confuse violence with an opinion
against violence (or to religion). The Islamic world also experienced
such cases.
The Bedouin Character in the Qur'an
In the period of our Prophet, there existed two basic social
structures in Arabia . City-dwellers and Bedouins (Desert Arabs). A
sophisticated culture prevailed in Arab towns. Commercial relations
linked the towns to the outer world, which contributed to the
formation of "civilized life" among Arabs dwelling in cities. They had
refined aesthetic values, enjoyed literature and, especially poetry.
Desert Arabs, on the other hand, were the nomad tribes living in the
desert who had a very crude culture. Utterly unaware of arts and
literature, they developed an unrefined, harsh character.
Islam was born and developed among the inhabitants of Mecca , the most
important city of the peninsula. However, as Islam spread to the
peninsula, all tribes in Arabia embraced it. Among these tribes were
also Desert Arabs, who were somehow problematic: their poor
intellectual and cultural background prevented them from grasping the
profundity and noble spirit of Islam. Of this God states the following
in a verse:
The Desert Arabs are more obdurate in disbelief and hypocrisy and more
likely not to know the limits which God has sent down to His
Messenger. God is All-Knowing, All-Wise. ( Surat at-Tawba: 97)
The Desert Arabs, that is, social groups who were "obdurate in
disbelief and hypocrisy" and prone to disobey God's commands, became a
part of the Islamic world in the Prophet's lifetime. In latter
periods, they became a source of trouble for the Islamic world. The
sect called "Kharijis" that emerged among Bedouins was an example. The
most distinctive trait of this perverse sect (which was called
"Kharijis" the rebels because they greatly deviated from Sunni
practises), was their extremely vulgar, wild and fanatical nature. The
"Kharijis", who had no comprehension whatsoever of the essence of
Islam or of the virtues and the values of the Qur'an, waged war
against all other Muslims and based this war on a few Qur'anic verses
about which they made distorted interpretations. Furthermore, they
carried out "acts of terrorism". Caliph Ali, who was one of the
closest companions of the Prophet and was described by him as the
"gate of the city of knowledge", was assassinated by a Kharijite.
In latter periods, "Hashashis" (Assassins), another brutal
organization, emerged; this was a "terrorist organization" made up of
ignorant and fanatical militants bereft of a profound understanding of
the essence of Islam and thus who could be readily influenced by
simple slogans and promises.
In other words, just as the Crusaders distorted and misinterpreted
Christianity as a teaching of brutality, some perverted groups
emerging in the Islamic world misinterpreted Islam and resorted to
brutality. What is common to these sects and the Crusaders was their
"Bedouin" nature. That is, they were ignorant, unrefined,
uncultivated, vulgar, and isolated people. The violence they resorted
resulted from this social structure, rather than the religion to which
they claimed to adhere.
The Actual Source of Terrorism: The Third World Fanaticism
These examples from history are enlightening for a better
understanding of the phenomenon, the so-called "Islamic terror", which
is nowadays on the top of the international agenda. That is because
those who emerge and carry out acts of terrorism in the name of Islam
or those who back such acts -these people, no doubt, represent a
minority in the world of Islam- stem from this "Bedouin character",
not from Islam. Failing to understand the essence of Islam, they try
to make Islam, essentially a religion of peace and justice, a tool of
barbarism, which is simply an outcome of their social and cultural
structure. The origin of this barbarism, which may well be called the
"Third World Fanaticism", is the benighted initiatives of people who
are devoid of love for humans.
It is a fact that, for the last few centuries, Muslims in all corners
of the Islamic world, are being subjected to violence by Western
forces and their affiliates. The colonialist European states, local
oppressive regimes or colonialists backed by the West ( Israel , for
instance) caused great suffering for Muslims at large. However, for
Muslims, this is a situation that has to be approached and responded
to from a purely Qur'anic stance.
In no part of the Qur'an does God command believers to "respond to
violence with violence". On the contrary, God commands Muslims to
"respond to evil with goodness":
A good action and a bad action are not the same. Repel the bad with
something better and, if there is enmity between you and someone else,
he will be like a bosom friend. ( Surat al-Fussilat: 34)
It is no doubt a legitimate right of Muslims to react against cruelty.
However, these reactions should never turn into a blind hatred, an
unjust enmity. God warns about this in the following verse: "... Do
not let hatred for a people who debar you from the Masjid al-Haram
incite you into going beyond the limits. Help each other to goodness
and heedfulness. Do not help each other to wrongdoing and enmity. Heed
God Allah (alone)..." ( Surat al-Ma'ida: 2)
Consequently, carrying out terrorist acts under the pretence of
"representing the oppressed nations of the world", against the
innocent people of other nations is by no means compatible with Islam.
Another point that deserves a special mention here is that all the
Western world cannot be held responsible for the aforementioned
colonialist (or "neo-colonialist) violence and oppression against
Muslims. Actually, the materialist, irreligious philosophies and
ideologies that prevailed in the 19th century are responsible for
these dismal acts. European colonialism did not originate from
Christianity. On the contrary, anti-religious movements opposing the
values of Christianity led the way to colonialism. At the roots of the
greatest brutalities of the 19th century lies the Social Darwinist
ideology.
In the Western world today, there are still cruel, mischievous and
opposing elements as well as a culture dominated by peaceful and just
elements that have its roots in Judeo-Christian faith. As a matter of
fact, the main disagreement is not between the West and Islam.
Contrary to the general opinion, it is between the religious people of
the West and of the Muslim world on the one hand, and the people
opposing religion (like materialists and atheists.) on the other.
Another indication that Third World Fanaticism has nothing to do with
Islam is that, until recently, this fanaticism has been identified
with communist ideology. As is known, similar anti-Western acts of
terror were carried out in 1960s and 70s by Soviet-backed communist
organizations. As the impact of the communist ideology faded, some of
the social structures which gave birth to communist organizations have
turned their attention to Islam. This "brutality presented under the
guise of religion", which is formulated by the incorporation of some
Islamic concepts and symbols into the former communist rhetoric are
entirely against the moral values constituting the essence of Islam.
.
A last remark about this issue is that Islam is not peculiar to a
particular nation or geography. Contrary to the dominant Western
perception, Islam is not an "Eastern culture". Islam is the last
religion revealed to mankind as a guide to the true path that
recommends itself to all humanity. Muslims are responsible for
communicating the true religion they believe in to all people of all
nations and cultures and making them feel closer to Islam.
Consequently, there is a unique solution for people and groups who, in
the name of Islam, resort to terror or establish oppressive regimes
and turn this world into a dreadful place instead of beautifying it:
revealing the true Islam and communicating it so that the masses can
understand and live by it.
Conclusion: Recommendations to the Western World
Today, the Western world is concerned about the organizations that use
terror under the guise of Islam and this concern is not misplaced. It
is obvious that those carrying out terror and their supporters should
be punished according to international judicial criteria. However, a
more important point to consider is the long-term strategies that have
to be pursued for viable solutions to these problems.
The assessments above reveal that terror has no place in Islam. They
further show the inherently contradictory nature of the concept of
"Islamic terror". This provides us with an important vantage point:
1) The Western world, especially the United States , will surely take
the most dissuasive measures to cope with terror and it has the right
to do that. However, it has to state explicitly that this is not a war
waged against Islam and Muslims but, on the contrary, a measure
serving the best interests of Islam. The "Clash of civilizations", the
dangerous scenario envisioned in the 90's should be at all costs
prevented.
2) Support should be provided for the spread of "True Islam", which is
a religion of love, friendship, peace and brotherhood, and for its
true understanding by Islamic societies. The solution for radical
factions in Islamic countries should not be "forced secularization".
On the contrary, such a policy will incite more reaction from the
masses and feed radicalism. The solution is the dissemination of true
Islam and the appearance of a Muslim role-model who embraces Qur'anic
values such as human rights, democracy, freedom, good morals, science
and aesthetics, and who offers happiness and bliss to humanity.
3) The source of terrorism is ignorance and bigotry and the solution
is education. To the circles who feel sympathy with terror, it should
be said that terror is utterly against Islam, that terror only does
harm to Islam, Muslims and to humanity at large. Besides, these people
have to be provided with education in order to be purified of this
barbarism. The United States ' support to such an education policy
will yield very positive results.
Our hope is that these measures will help to the world get rid of
terrorism and all other bigoted, brutal, barbarous structures. With
its Christian-dominated culture and population, the United States ,
which defines itself as "a nation under God", is in fact a real friend
of the Muslims. In the Qur'an, God draws attention to this fact and
informs us that Christians are those who are "most affectionate to
those who believe". ( Surat al-Ma'ida: 82)
In history, some ignorant people (for instance, Crusaders) failed to
understand this fact and caused conflicts between these two great
religions. To prevent the repetition of this scenario, true Christians
and Muslims need to come together and co-operate.
During the last two decades in particular, the concept of "Islamic
terror" has been often discussed. In the wake of the September 11
terrorist attacks on targets in New York and Washington which caused
the death of tens of thousands of innocent civilians, this concept has

to him the other also." (Luke, 6/29) No doubt, in no part of the New
Testament, is there reference to the legitimacy of violence; murdering
innocent people, on the other hand, is unimaginable.
