Reservation benefits Muslim students; it must not be scrapped

RAMANATHAPURAM: Reservation for Muslims in the State must not be scrapped, said noted Tamil poet and Director of Islamiya Ilakkiya Kazhagam Abdul Rahman, .Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, he said that one or two Muslim organisations which were always finding fault with the government initiatives had been indulging in false propaganda over reservation given to Muslims.It had actually benefitted Muslims during the current academic year.An additional 1,200 Muslim students had been admitted to engineering colleges.

Similarly, the percentage of Muslim candidates who joined medical colleges had also doubled this year.It was all because of the implementation of reservation.He said that the Central Government must also implement similar reservation system for Muslims in employment.

Recommendations: The Ranganath Misra recommendations based on Justice Rajendra Sachar report must also be implemented.S.M. Hidhayadullah, general secretary, Islamiya Ilakkiya Kazhagam, said that there were reports that Muslims were finding it more difficult than others in availing bank loans.The State and Central governments must take necessary steps for speedy delivery of loans to needy Muslims.
